GREEN EVENT - International Climate Challenge

Client: InterClimate Network

Event: International Climate Challenge

Requirements: The organisers wanted a central London venue that matched the ethos of the project and had an international feel to it. It was particularly important to have a large hall capable of holding a ‘market place’ to showcase projects.

Solution:
The InterClimate Network, a not-for-profit organisation which aims to inspire action on the issue of climate change, brought the International Climate Challenge (ICC), to The Royal Horticultural Halls (RHH) in July. The challenge involved young people across the UK, Kenya and India showcasing their climate change projects, sharing learning and carrying out peer reviews to identify best practice.

As well as young people and teachers from participating countries, delegates included people actively working on projects to positively influence climate change, including Claire Lucas MEP and film maker Leo Murray. Keynote speakers included Jonathon Porritt from Forum for the Future, Marcus Agius, chairman of Barclays PLC, and Liberal Democrat peer Lord Tyler.

The Lindley Hall offered a perfect solution and the Conference Centre provided ample space not only for large plenary sessions but also for breakouts.

Selecting a venue that has CRS policies in place was extremely important to the organisers. In addition, the venue offered many solutions to keep the event as green as possible. Easy access to public transport enabled delegates to cut their carbon footprint, the hall had plenty of natural light and recycling facilities were readily available. The fact that the Halls encourage green living and supports the Royal Horticultural Society added a feel-good factor to the event. On the day, reusable cutlery and crockery were utilised and Leith’s at the RHH provided an African-Caribbean lunch, ensuring where possible, local and sustainable produce was used.
